NEW ORLEANS INSPIRED BUT BORN IN THE STREETS OF YORK
We might hail from the ancient city of York, but we’ve got New Orleans soul burning in our veins. New York Brass Band was created by The Boss… not Bruce, but James, back in 2011. Now he and his grown up children, Joe, Charlie and Grace, along with some of the most talented brass musicians this side of the Pennines, spend their days bring joy and laughter (not to mention tired feet) to festival lovers, wedding couples and guests and events, around the world.

The band is a powerful team of some of Yorkshire’s finest musicians packing an arsenal of percussion, sax, trumpets, trombones and sousaphone with a varied repertoire of over 80 tunes at their fingertips without a note of music in sight. And did we mention Al (or as his fans know him, Nigel Rogers) who takes his funky guitar and beret wearing to the next level. New York Brass Band works without gimmicks, auto tune or backing tracks, and blurs the line between band and audience by inviting the crowd to become part of the show and ending the performance dancing on the tables or in a conga under the stars. It’s the most fun you can have with your clothes on!
STYLE
Whilst our heart is in New Orleans jazz, we play a varied repertoire of pop (yes to The Spice Girls!), indie, reggae, ska and funk. We love a party anthem as much as the next person, but if you need something a little more sophisticated, we can do that too. If you want us to play your favourite song at your First Dance, that’s no problem. If your party needs a specific banger, we got ya. We’ll happily talk through the tracks you want and offer advice about the perfect set list for your event. We play at weddings and events across the uk, and the world, from Glyndbourne, to Glastonbury, Chelsea Flower Show to Boomtown Festival – each one creating the right atmosphere to get people on their feet and enjoying the music.

Our little merry band of NYBB’ers have played at some of the best festivals and events in the world. We’ve appeared at celebrity weddings and played for royalty. Every year we pound the train tracks at Glasto to appear all over the festival, and we regularly play Cork Jazz Festival, Durham Brass, Latitude and Boomtown. We’ve entertained Danny Jones, Kylie Minogue, Jamie Oliver, Ellie Goulding and Liam Gallagher. Our corporate clients include Manchester City FC, Yorkshire Tea, Centre Parcs, Brewdog, Harvey Nichols, DHL, Chatsworth House, ASDA and the NFL! Yeah, well if we don’t literally blow our own trumpet, who else is gonna do it?
